Sarah and I went to Wreck Beach to meet up with Laryssa & Amanda & co., and after a lovely time swimming and eating snacks and socializing, we headed home to shower and change before Joel's birthday celebration at the Biltmore. Every time I go to Kitty Nights, I wonder why I don't go more often...

Jeff and I went hiking in the afternoon, in Deep Cove on the Baden Powell trail. It wasn't too tough but it was pretty hot out, and there were definitely a lot of steep parts and stairs. However, we were rewarded with this great lookout over the Cove and Indian Arm. After we got back to the road, we treated ourself to some pizza before heading home to shower and change for the gallery opening/book release for This Is East Van.
Dad & Sharon picked us up and there were quite a few people already at Interurban, but it was PACKED after about half an hour! I got two free drink tickets, and Tesney gave hers to me and Jeff since as a pregnant woman, she can't drink beer. Ran into a few friends and met some more of the other photographers, and one of the volunteers asked me to autograph under my photo in his copy of the book (I assume he was asking everyone, but it was still flattering). Later in the night, I walked past my print and saw the little blue sticker that means 'SOLD'! I was in such disbelief I made Jeff go over and check to make sure I wasn't drunk and imagining things.
When we got tired of the warmth and the crowd, we went over to Terra Cotta to meet Dad & Sharon for some food and wine. Considered going to the afterparty, but I mostly just wanted to go home and take off my shoes.
It was super hot out, so I bought beer on the way back from work (and cracked one open on the walk home), and Sarah and Steph were already sitting out in the yard. We sat out drinking and chatting and ordered in some sushi, and then when Sarah and Steph had other things to do, I read my book until it got too dark and cool.

I framed my print for This Is East Van finally, and dropped it off at the gallery. Then I went to meet Jeff for dinner in Gastown, but the place we wanted to try (The Judas Goat) is closed Mondays. We ended up just going to Steamworks, which has good beer and acceptable food.
Steph and I decided to go to The Mill for their Canada Day thinger, mostly for something to do, not because we particularly care about fireworks or anything (which is good because from where we were seated, we couldn't see shit). Mostly we just drank cider & wine and ate pizza and talked about stuff. Then we shamefully, drunkenly stopped at McDonald's on the way home.
I didn't take any good pictures, but I couldn't resist taking a sneaky one of this guy, because, uh, what?

I went to Man Up with Pia and Heather. It was a pretty good time, some excellent performances, although it was BOILING hot in the Cobalt and the show started quite late, so we were all drunk and drenched in sweat by the time the actual show began. We stayed til the bar closed, and since I didn't feel like waiting for the nightbus at Hastings & Main, I took a cab with the two of them back to Pia's, where we ate chips and chatted a bit before passing out.

My dad and Sharon came over for dinner. We had grilled spring salmon with maple-mustard glaze, mashed potatoes with chives & cumin-caramelized onions, and cucumber & crushed ginger salad with sesame seeds & red onion (photo here). After dinner we sat out on the patio as the sun set, drinking port.

I won the brunch cookoff with my mushroom-herb polenta & fried tofu benny with coconut milk garlic sauce and roasted heirloom tomato. As usual, check out the blog for all the entries and other category winners!
After the cookoff I met Jeff at work where he was going to take me to dinner, but lucky I brought a book because I ended up waiting almost an hour and a half while he and his boss had a meeting. (He's also lucky I wasn't starving, or else I would have been way more cranky.) But regardless we went to Twisted Fork and had ourselves a delicious meal and a nice time. Jeff tried the Soaring Eagle wine they had available, which was a winery I pointed out on our trip because it made me think of Alex. I probably made the waitress feel awkward by bringing it up, but oh well.

I met up with Laryssa and we went to check out car-free day on the Drive. Ran into June and then we all parted ways after a bit. I got myself a library card (finally) and then went to visit Jeff at work for a little while.

Jeff and I went to St. Augustine's on the Drive for beers with his friend Hiran, and another friend whose name I forget. We drank some beers and had good talks about photography and films and feminism. I also ate these delicious halibut tacos.

It was Yvonne's birthday, so Jeff and I joined her & Gord plus her friends Joanne (pictured above, who is a riot) and Bob for delicious Chinese food in North Van. It was pouring rain so after we got home Jeff and I made a pot of tea and watched The Shawshank Redemption, which I had read but not seen, and man, what a fine piece of cinema.

I met up with Iain, Jeff, Jesse, & Steph (and, later, Dale & Trevor) downtown for an evening of pub-hopping and beer-drinking. We began at the Winking Judge, moved to the Irish Heather for dinner, followed by a quick cocktail at The Diamond, and finally the Alibi Room, everyone's favourite taphouse. I got pretty outrageously drunk because I didn't realize that two of the beers I had were 13% (though the name Lucky 13 should have tipped me off)... and this was after three drinks already. Hangover of a lifetime the next morning, but I can't say the evening wasn't fun.
A few more photos from this day here.
