saving room
Bit of a copout I guess since it's only my hand, but it's the only shot I could find for that week. A page from my copy of Wreck This Journal, which I was really excited about for the first couple weeks but seem to have been ignoring lately...

12x12: March

Zeus

beer booklet
Jeff & I went to the 500th beer list party at the Alibi Room. We went on the second day so a lot of the special casks and taps they'd opened on the previous night had already sold out, but there was still a veritable book of beers to choose from.

One must presume this error is on purpose.

bar windows
First time I noticed the creepy stuffed owl thing behind the bar.
beer blur
Someone brushed past me as I was taking this, and in the low light, it was enough to make it turn out like this, apparently.
roses and daisies
COOL STORY TIME: A grey cat kept coming around our yard for a few days looking skinny and sad and wanting to come inside, so we fed him and Tamara set up a box so he would have someplace to sleep. I figured before calling a shelter I'd look on craigslist for lost pets, and found one that fit the description in our neighbourhood. He was an indoor cat who'd escaped almost two weeks before — no wonder he was so skinny! I emailed her and she came over right away to pick him up. She cried with happiness and asked if she could give me a hug. A few days later I found this pot of yellow roses on the front stoop from her. Such a sweet gesture; I was just happy to help someone get their lost pet home. I've since planted them in the front yard, hoping they get some roots and turn into a bush. (The pink daisies are from a wedding Sarah went to.)
chocolate stout cupcakes
A neat thing about making stout cake is you get to drink the leftover stout.
rosemary
I trimmed this and did some weeding; it's out of control again now though.

Ash
Mal hosted a clothes swap, though the only people who showed were ourselves, Ash, and Allie, so it was mostly just the two of us trading femme clothes and the two of them trading butch clothes. Afterwards we sat out in the yard for a bit, having nachos & beer and talking. Ash works as a landscaper, and in the photo above she is collecting lavender flowers off some excess plants she trimmed in someone's yard.

On the way home I was near Tamara's apartment, so I decided to see if she wanted to hang out. We sat in the park with her dog for a bit until some creepy dude decided to come sit down with us and then we went inside to escape. Later she walked with me down to Hastings to catch the bus and on the way I got delicious samosas & pakora from Deserts to eat for dinner while I watched Silver Linings Playbook, which was surprisingly impressive.

14 July 12

lavender
Jeff and I crossed the border for no particular reason, and went and explored a district of Bellingham called Fairhaven. We bought used books, checked out the harbour, petted some dogs, drank some beer in a dingy pub, and ate seafood at an outdoor café. On the way home we stopped at Trader Joe's for groceries and saw the HUGEST basil plants ever for $2.99, and got it across the border no problem? Dunno why living basil is ok but apples are not, but oh well.
A few more photos from this day here.

purple poppies
Taken on the way home from Chelsea's place in Burnaby, where she cut my hair, loaned me books, and fed me pizza. ♥

cherry blossoms
The weather was gorgeous and it finally was starting to feel like spring, so I took a little photo walk around the neighbourhood. A few more photos can be seen here.

birthday corsage snap bracelet
Malloreigh with a corsage snap bracelet, given to her as a birthday gift. We celebrated with a picnic in Crab Park, involving copious amounts of food and some beer & wine & Fireball. There was frisbee, and nail painting, and wrestling, and random wet dogs that came up to check out the food and lick our faces. A lovely evening.

plastic bus stop flower
Steph and I were supposed to go see Super 8 but we both had horrible transit fail so we just watched the fourth Harry Potter movie at her place. We're trying to work our way through all of them before the new one comes out next week.

I think I probably took the exact same picture around this time last year.

lawn crocuses
This is near my house. I don't know how these things pop up so fast (they certainly weren't there three days prior), but I love them and I wish it was my lawn. In fact, I wish I had a backyard that was not cement kind.

flasks in the windowbox
We drove to Vernon for the wedding of a high school friend of Jeff's. It was a lovely time and I enjoyed how things were slightly out of the ordinary - for instance, the best man was the groom's sister, these flasks were in the flowerbox during the ceremony, we were instructed to wave our napkins as you would towels at a Canucks game when the wedding party arrived at the reception, etc. The ranch where the ceremony was held was quite interesting, also, and we spent some time exploring there before heading back to the hotel for the reception.
booze brothers
Jeff and Chris at the reception, enjoying some $2 booze (not as cheap as free, but still, cheaper than a bar). I'm posting two from today because I took lots and I missed Friday.
A few more Okanagan photos here.
