22 August 13

children in the surf
Went walking around in the morning, finishing my roll of film and shopping for records. The guy at the record store was nice, and recommended something that turned out to be amazing when I got home and was able to listen to it. Had a drink and read my book at a pub, then met up with everyone for lunch at Raglan's. I went back to the beach for a bit before sunset, enjoying the light. Michael and Maddie joined us for dinner, bringing whiskey and picking up fancy pizza from Pizza Port down the road.
Lots more photos from this day here.

dad & baby
Jeff and I went to Jake & Tesney's new place, just a few blocks away, to have dinner and meet their baby girl Alinka.

do you like my nail polish?
A little boy checking out a man's rainbow nail polish at the Pride Parade. I went with Steph, and it was extremely hot out. We saw Sarah in the parade in her Trojan t-shirt and hung out with June for a short time, but then Steph & I left and went down to the Mill for a beer and some food. Got popsicles on the way home and then sat outside drinking until we couldn't stand the heat anymore, and went inside to watch movies in Steph's cool, dark basement suite. After Jeff got home we went out for Indian food and it was the greatest.

25 February 12

running in the waves
Mom and I spent most of the afternoon on the beach, after spending almost the whole morning sleeping. We both got patchy, awkward sunburns from spots we missed with the sunscreen. In the evening we had dinner at Toro Salao, a tapas place in Old San Juan. Afterwards we walked up to this bar called Pizza e Birra (you guessed it, Pizza & Beer) and had a few drinks on their patio before taking the sketchiest cab ride ever back to the hotel. We went back to the bar almost every night (the host recognized us and kept giving us the same table) because the drinks were cheap and the patio was lovely, and it was a nice mixture of tourists and locals.

cultural universals
Nice to know that kids wanting to scare the shit out of birds is a cultural universal.
