19 July 12

rosewater cream puffs
Jeff and I decided to check out Portland Craft on Main Street. I liked their beer menu, and the food was tasty, but I can't say I care for their 'as it comes' method of service. It works for groups of people ordering food to share, but watching Jeff eat half of his burger while I picked at his fries and waited for my prawns to be ready was pretty obnoxious. If you want to serve food tapas-style, maybe don't offer entrees? At least these rosewater cream puffs made a pretty good dessert.
Before going home we went up to the edge of the Second Narrows bridge to watch the sunset.

18 July 12

lions
After work, Liang and I had a beer at the Charles Bar (which, incidentally, I don't really recommend — the service was not very good) and then hung out at Crab Park for a bit, enjoying the sun and watching the dogs play.

rainbow BC Place
After dinner, Jeff and I decided to go check out the Tap & Barrel opening (it's another pub owned by the dude he works for) in Olympic Village. They have a pretty sweet setup, with 30 taps in total (beer & wine) and a great patio view of downtown and False Creek. I dislike that their beer doesn't come in a smaller size than a pint though, because it makes me so full that I can only have one kind of beer.

16 July 12

lunch
I finally had to give in to the weird summer cold I'd been fighting and stay home from work. I slept late, ate breakfast in the yard with Jeff, read books all day. Had this sandwich (roasted pepper & basil hummus, avocado, tomato) with local fruit for lunch.

15 July 12

bathroom window
Malloreigh had her housewarming party (despite moving in over a month earlier) and I forgot my camera, forcing me to interact with people on a level I'm not entirely accustomed to.

14 July 12

lavender
Jeff and I crossed the border for no particular reason, and went and explored a district of Bellingham called Fairhaven. We bought used books, checked out the harbour, petted some dogs, drank some beer in a dingy pub, and ate seafood at an outdoor café. On the way home we stopped at Trader Joe's for groceries and saw the HUGEST basil plants ever for $2.99, and got it across the border no problem? Dunno why living basil is ok but apples are not, but oh well.
A few more photos from this day here.

13 July 12

cactus on the dash
Sarah was washing her bedding and her pillow exploded/melted in the dryer, so she and Steph and I went to Ikea to buy a new one (among other things). I acquired a couple of new succulents; this spiky one rode home on the dashboard.

12 July 12

through the trees
Jeff and I decided to go for a drive after dinner, and ended up heading into Howe Sound on the 99 to watch the sunset. Afterwards we treated ourselves to the choice of 218 flavours at La Casa Gelato.

11 July 12

closed Cordova St
A section of streets was closed for the Gastown Grand Prix (bicycle races). Pretty cool to walk through at rush hour and see a normally busy street completely empty. I felt like sitting and reading outside, so I went to see Jeff at the Mill and sat on the patio and enjoyed a beer with my book.

10 July 12

traveling band
Liang invited me over to her place for dinner, but it was too hot for cooking so instead we shared a pitcher and some food at a pub nearby, and then went and sat at the beach until sunset.
