We hosted a barbecue and it was well-attended, delicious, and sunny. Also Jeff and I got to meet our nephew Tyrion for the first time, as Natalie and Seamus had just returned from Korea! He's so big already — only 3 months old and wearing 9 month baby clothes.

It was our five-year anniversary, but of course Jeff had to work. At least we got to have breakfast together (and a nice dinner the day before). Also these are clearly my new favourite pants.

24 August 13

After a hungover suitcase pack & cleanup of the cottage and drive to the airport in Santa Ana, the flight was relatively easy. I mostly listened to Night Vale and ate candy. Jeff picked me up and as it was dinnertime and we were both starving, we decided to go out someplace on Main St, since we're never in that area. Got lucky when we tried The Acorn because it was full and had a waitlist, but the party of two ahead of us was a no-show so we got a table within ten minutes. The food was incredible — above is my meal of beer-battered haloumi, zucchini pancake, mashed peas, and lemon balm yogurt (it was a lot like fish & chips). We came home and after I unpacked, we relaxed with some episodes of The Wire and a bottle of wine.

We spent the day wandering around Old Town and the Gaslamp Quarter, sightseeing and shopping and eating food (all the important tourist activities). In the evening Jon and Hayley came down from the mountain to visit and uhhhh drunkenness happened. I don't know why anyone thought that was a good idea with a flight the next day.

22 August 13

Went walking around in the morning, finishing my roll of film and shopping for records. The guy at the record store was nice, and recommended something that turned out to be amazing when I got home and was able to listen to it. Had a drink and read my book at a pub, then met up with everyone for lunch at Raglan's. I went back to the beach for a bit before sunset, enjoying the light. Michael and Maddie joined us for dinner, bringing whiskey and picking up fancy pizza from Pizza Port down the road.
