20 February 11

sweet cuppin' cakes
Cupcake giveaway day! It was a cold but lovely day out in Kitsilano, and it took about half an hour to give away approximately 4 dozen mini cupcakes and 3 dozen regular style. Afterwards we went to the Naam for beer and so much food.
Please see here for details and a delightful photo of us.

19 February 11

water & oj
Another delicious vegan brunch at Mal & Kaylie's, and then in the afternoon/evening Amanda and Tim came over to drink beer and make cupcakes for the giveaway. Photos of brunch and one batch of the cupcakes here.

18 February 11

Hotel Georgia
Jeff took me out for dinner at Sip on Granville before going to see Plants & Animals at the Commodore. We had some delicious food and booze and watched a really excellent show. Yukon Blonde opened, and although I'd heard good things about them, this was the first time I had heard their music. We bought a record of theirs.
On the way to the bus stop afterwards I noticed that the scaffold is finally gone from this building. It had been there for over a year. Upon arriving at the bus stop we decided it was far too cold and we were far too tired to wait 20 minutes for it, so we took a cab home and were in bed by quarter after one. Best decision ever.

17 February 11

salami sandwich, deconstructed
Sometimes you have to take sandwich fixings to work in separate containers so the bread doesn't get soggy.

16 February 11

saxomaphone
Jeff and I were too tired to cook, plus we had no real food, so we had dinner at Burgers Etc. We intended to get groceries afterwards, but forgot that Donald's closes at 8 and not 9. We went to Safeway to pick up the essentials and ran into Val and Sean also doing late-night grocery shopping.

Zeus in the recycling, again
I don't know why he seems to so enjoy sleeping amongst egg cartons and torn envelopes and cereal boxes, but you know.

hand holding
Cookoff day! I of course did take photos of the food (a couple of which can be viewed here), but I just really love this shot of Amanda and Tim.

reading cookbooks over tea
Jeff, Jesse, and I spent most of the day preparing food for coconut cookoff the following day.

12 February 11

sultry
Brunch at Mal & Kaylie's again, and in the evening, party at Amanda's in honour of hating Valentine's day. It was a wonderful party full of booze and friends and good conversation. Here is Amanda looking lovely in a dress she borrowed from me.
This photo got explored on Flickr, which I found out only by chance... I really wish they had some form of notification for this stuff!

This might become a reality for me soon.

09 February 11

lemon chicken with rice & veggies
Jeff has been been going nuts with breading stuff lately because we have a bag of breadcrumbs the size of an actual loaf of bread. I'm not complaining; it meant I got to eat this delicious lemon chicken.

Ray, making dip
Jeff and I went to Ray's to watch the superbowl (read: eat a whole bunch of crap and drink a bunch of beer while making fun of football). It was fun to hang out but football is still pretty boring. And it gives me Omaha flashbacks.

05 February 11

sheer curtained kitchen
Jeff and I went to Vegan Mischief Southern brunch at Mal & Kaylie's. It was fully delicious, but that's hardly surprising. What was surprising was how many tables they managed to fit into the living room of their 1-bedroom suite! You can view photos of the food here.
Later I went to the thrift store and found many a wonderful thing, and then in the evening I went to Steph's for a girls' night with her and Val and Tams. We talked through Face-Off and 10 Things I Hate About You and drank some booze and it was good times.

04 February 11

we don't stand for that
At the bus stop near my house. I'm honestly kind of curious who the original writer was referring to. I'm always down to meet new lesbians!

03 February 11

quinoa with beans and chipotle sausage
I thought I'd give Jeff a break from slaving over a hot stove, so I made quinoa & beans & veggies with some chipotle sausage. It made me happy to hear Jeff say that he apparently does not hate quinoa.

31 January 11

dead zucchini vine
It was inventory day, so I started work at 6:45am. Luckily everything went okay and I got to leave at 2:30. There was still lots of daylight! In the back garden I noticed a bunch of fascinating ice crystals, but ended up being more intrigued by how cool these zucchini vines looked.

30 January 11

it looks like he's about to click his heels
We all woke up early and went down the hill to a diner for breakfast. Jeff and I hit the road just before 11, and then went to a sports bar near the Space Needle to watch the All-Star game and drink some beer. Then we went across the street to the Pacific Science Center to see the incredibly nerdy Harry Potter Exhibition, a collection of props and costumes from the films that they don't let you take photos of. On the way there we caught the end of some Chinese New Year-related performance, complete with numerous firecracker explosions. But it was really fucking cold and windy, so we didn't stick around long.
More photos from this weekend and the previous can be viewed here.

29 January 11

the nearest place to get coffee
In the morning, we went to Maple Falls - the nearest place to the ranch at which I could get espresso. We sat and read books for a while and then headed over to Justin and Deanna's place in Ferndale. We ate a whole bunch and got drunk in the afternoon. Jeff and I slept on the couch.

Justin also gave me a darkroom handbook to look through and if I feel it's something I can/want to do, he'll give me his darkroom equipment. :D

28 January 11

North Fork Brewery
Jeff and I crossed the border in time to go to the North Fork for pizza and beer, although we had to pay more than $1 for our drinks this time.

27 January 11

does not do justice
I failed to take a photo on the 26th. Probably because I was too busy downtown giving away eight dozen cupcakes in less than fifteen minutes!
On this day I was walking home from work and saw a fantastic, brilliantly red sunset. Unfortunately iphones do not do such beauty justice... and sunsets I feel are one of those things that are always, always 1000x better in real life than in photos.

25 January 11

cupcakes for giveaway
I went to Amanda's after work and some other people joined us later so we could bake four dozen vegan cupcakes to give away the following day at Burrard Station. The ones pictured here are chocolate with peppermint icing, but we also made dulce sin leche, rosewater with orange buttercream, and chai with icing sugar. This is part of a monthly project started by Amanda - the idea is just to brighten people's day with a free cupcake with no strings attached.
Please see special delivery cupcakes tumblr for more information!

24 January 11

Amanda & chocolate cake
Cookoff! The theme was food you ate as a child. I made Mickey Mouse-shaped Scotch style pancakes with veggie sausage and tied for second place. Kaylie came in first with her Frito pie (basically chili/salsa with avocado and cheese and Fritos). This is Amanda not wanting to leave any of Yaara's chocolate cake on her plate.

23 January 11

morning campfire
We got up early and went to Bellis Fair before heading home so that Jeff could get some non-exploded boots, after noticing the previous evening that one of the Steve Maddens I bought him for Christmas had come apart from the sole in a serious way. We also stocked up on bourbon at the duty free.
