23 May 13

looking east
For some reason even though I was still really sick I went out and did things after work? I don't know what my deal is.

22 May 13

mess
It was Jeff's birthday and I was still sick and had to go to work, but I left him a vinyl copy of OK Computer on his dresser for him to find when he woke up.

21 May 13

legs
Was super sick so I had a eucalyptus bath and read a book and felt a bit better.

20 May 13

more ivy
I went for lunch on Granville Island with Mom and Jimm. After that we walked around a bit and then went to Zulu, and when we realized there was still lots of time before their dinner reservation, went to Tap & Barrel for a drink. Later, read that my friend Jo was selling her old bike, so I went over and had a look and since my Apollo is essentially dead in every way, I bought it and rode it home.
There are a few more photos from this day here.

19 May 13

planting
Planted seeds and seedlings, drank G&Ts.

18 May 13

black & blue
Jeff and I went to Costco and finished in record time and without me murdering anyone! Then we bought some seeds and herbs for the garden, and had a quick lunch at the pub before Jeff had to leave for work. I also went downtown for shopping round two, which was a success: I got a beautiful grey maxi dress, a couple of tops, and a pair of flowered shorts. Back at home, Steph and I watched the tv miniseries of The Shining from the 90s, which is still really scary and true to the book, but has a lot more mom jeans and bad CGI than I remember.

17 May 13

umbrella
Tried to go shopping after work but it seems like whenever I actually have money, everything is ugly (vs. when I don't have money and I find numerous things I like & can't afford). Afterwards I popped down to the Mill for a beer and a burger, and to say hi to Jeff.

combover
Decided to see what it was like to have my hair on the other side. The answer: strange & wrong.

universe bracelet
This is my universe bracelet, of Hayley's creation. She weaves them out of hemp with three beads, and the idea is you never take it off and over time, the strands holding the beads on will break and a bead will come off. When this happens it is taken as a sign to reflect on change in your life.

14 May 13

election day
I voted... and although in my riding the NDP were elected, a bunch of idiots somehow managed to get the BC Liberals into a majority government (even though Christy Clark lost her seat). It was very disappointing... all polling was pointing for an NDP win. I don't know what happened.

13 May 13

Rogue
Finally got my hair cut, and afterwards met up with Jeff at Rogue for beer and food. We watched the end of the Toronto/Boston game, and normally I wouldn't feel sad for the Leafs Leafs-ing it up and blowing a 4-1 lead in an elimination game... but really, fuck the Bruins.

08 May 13

roasted red pepper bisque
I came home and Jeff had made this delicious red pepper bisque with cilantro cream sauce, and since it was such a nice day we had mojitos and ate it on the patio.

07 May 13

mambo sun
Made a really good sandwich and then watched the Canucks get eliminated. At least that gets rid of one anxiety source until October.

It was Liang's birthday and she wanted to go for tea service at La petite cuillère, so that's what we did (though it was rather a hot day for tea). She made us loot bags!

04 May 13

ain't nothin' sweeter than ridin' the rails
Went to Maple Ridge to have dinner with Alice & my parents. We went to the Billy Miner, a pub down by the wharf & railway which was built around 1910, but as long as I could remember it was a seedy dive frequented by sad old men and train commuters.
In the past couple years, though, they've revamped their menu while keeping the old-town ambience about the place and now have a focus on gourmet burgers & craft beer. The food is so great that everyone puts up with the crummy service — our waitress, for instance, while sweet, took three tries to open a bottle of wine because she wasn't putting the corkscrew in all the way, brought two of us the wrong side dish, and forgot to bring us our leftovers.

03 May 13

hockey & beer
Playoff hockey is too riddled with anxiety sometimes. (Thank god that's over for the season, for me.)

Whenever I get my eyebrows waxed, my forehead looks like this for about the next 8 hours.

boys' club
little boys' shirt.

28 April 13

Untitled
I went downtown to run errands and treated myself to a new belt and some falafel.

27 April 13

oxford comma
When life upsets me I either don't have an appetite at all or I want to eat everything. This time it was the latter: I made deep-fried pickles, guacamole, baba ganoush. Watched the game with Steph until it got terrible. I was wearing these new shoes around the house all day, trying to break them in.

26 April 13

Red Stripe
Josh called me around 8pm, saying there was a bit of a situation with Kenny... I won't get into the details out of respect, but we were very glad that it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Mom and Jimm were stuck in Florida and Maddie (who is best at talking to & understanding Ken) still in San Diego, so Jeff and I went out there to keep him, Alice, Josh, & Trav company for a little while. We watched some old Disney cartoons and then Ken went to bed, and the rest of us had some beers and played Munchkin.
Sometimes growing up is such crap. I wished so much that Kenny were a little boy again and I could just hug him and tell him it's going to be all right.
