lunch at Skihist
Jeff & I took our annual drive to Quesnel to visit his dad. This is in Skihist, which we usually stop at for a picnic because a) there's approximately 0 good places to eat along the way, and b) the natural beauty is unreal. A big difference this year was me having my licence, so I drove all the way from Williams Lake to Quesnel on the highway!

[wo]man up
Spent Pride weekend with Liang, of course. We went to Man Up on Friday night; the show was great but we are both old ladies so we left at 1, as soon as it was over, instead of staying to drink & dance. The next morning we woke early, had brunch at Craft, and then spent some time reading in her building's rooftop garden before heading back to the Cobalt for the parking lot pool party. Bo & Su were going to join us, but Bo forgot her ID and they wouldn't let her in! So afterwards we all went for a drink and some food at the Union before heading home.

summer lovin'
Mal & Allie at the July cookoff, in the rooftop garden af Liang's building. This was technically still in week 28 by my rules, but it's such a lovely moment & I don't have anything good from this week, so I don't mind cheating a little.
If you want to see what happened at our southeast Asian cookoff, you can as always check out the blog.

bicycle feet
Liang & I went out to Jericho Beach. She let me drive her car, which, being an automatic, felt a bit like driving a go-kart after learning on Jeff's standard. We had beer & food at the sailing club before heading down to the water. It was still a little cold for swimming, but we had a relaxing afternoon in the shade on the sand, and then stopped for iced tea on the way home. A few more from this day, all with slide film, can be viewed here.

27/52

the wolf and hound
Jeff and I went to the live Night Vale show at the Chan Centre. We had a moderate freakout because ticketmaster was supposed to mail our tickets and we never received them, and Jeff didn't realize they were supposed to be mailed until the day of. After 20 minutes on hold with the ticketmaster we gave up and just drove to UBC anyway, with our printout confirmation, hoping they'd understand at the door. But we lucked out and the tickets were waiting for us at will call the whole time! It would have been nice of ticketmaster to let us know that, but of course why would those outlandish service charges fund actual customer services?

At any rate, the show was spectacular, and Jeff & I finished off the night with a beer and a burger at The Wolf & Hound, since it's a nice pub and we are almost never out in Point Grey.

the harbinger
Another sleeve session with Jude. It wasn't as bad as the previous two — maybe because of my cycle or maybe because the area was just easier... either way it was a funny comparison with me reading a graphic novel while she worked vs. the guy ahead of me wailing like a toddler. Still plenty of work to do, but at least now the tattoo looks a little more like one complete picture instead of two half-finished ones. Afterwards I was still feeling good so I met Jeff at the Wallflower for a beer & some food before going home to chill in front of the tv.

Amanda
I went to visit Amanda on the Sunshine Coast for the weekend, since she would be moving out of her little cabin at the end of the month and wanted to have a small farewell party. Dan & Tim were there too, and kindly offered me a ride back (I had quite the adventure trying to take the bus from the ferry dock). We went to the Persephone brewery, cooked hot dogs on the campfire, made focaccia bread, and smoked weed under the stars. The next day Kaylie and her girlfriend stopped by, which was nice because I hadn't seen her in months (or more). We sat on the patio at the coffee shop eating pastries and doing the NYT crossword, and then waited a bajillion years to get on the ferry. At least it gave me time to get gelato...

Sometimes you need to face mask.

ladies being cute
Bo & Su being adorable at our barbecue. Jeff & I decided that with the free case of wine we won, we just had an outrageously large amount of wine, so we had some friends over to eat food and help us through some. Between 12 of us we managed to polish off 10 bottles! Not bad, friends, not bad.

Summerhill pyramid
This is so west coast: their wine is organic, and aged in a pyramid because they believe the sacred geometry has an effect on it. Their wines WERE delicious, so who am I to say?

road thirteen
Wine trip! The weather was lovely & so was the company. We went to a lot of new places, some not as good as expected, some incredible. Most of us bought just as much wine as last year, plus Jeff was the winner in a draw for a free case from the Okanagan Falls region, so we may have come home with four cases of wine.
You can view all the photos I took on this trip here.

saving room
Bit of a copout I guess since it's only my hand, but it's the only shot I could find for that week. A page from my copy of Wreck This Journal, which I was really excited about for the first couple weeks but seem to have been ignoring lately...
