29 January 13

in dire need
Desperately in need of a haircut. I feel so unattractive and slobbish when it gets like this, it's actually a little difficult for me to leave the house.

knee socks
I don't know why I put on such an outfit just to go to the pub and watch the game with Steph.

23 January 13

Hiran came by after another jaunt to L.A., and had brought back some scotch on Jeff's request. Of course we all tasted it.

Cork & Fin
Jeff and I met up after work to check out Cork & Fin's offerings for DineOut, and oh man it was so worth it.

19 January 13

game day
Hockey returned, to the joy of many and the annoyance of many others. I watched with Steph/Jesse/Sarah/etc. and unfortunately the Canucks lost. Oh well.

17 January13

mushroom soup
Cookoff day! It was a small one, thankfully, because the theme was hearty winter foods. I tied with Amanda to win.

15 January 13

dinner at Dad's
Jeff and I went to dinner at Dad & Sharon's. We had some kind of marvelous salmon pasta and a whole bunch of wine, and because we hadn't seen them since before Christmas, we were gifted with a cheese board, a bottle of wine, some homemade chex mix, and $50.

14 January 13

gathering thyme
It started snowing while I was making soup, and I had to go out to the garden to gather thyme.

13 January 13

frosty path
Jeff and I went for breakfast at the Roundel and our timing couldn't have been better — we got the second-to-last table and by the time we left there were at least a dozen people waiting. Afterwards we drove out to Belcarra to take some photos. It was freezing, but we managed about ten minutes at White Pine and another fifteen at Woodhaven Swamp (seen in the above photo). It's always interesting to visit these 'summer' places in the winter, just to see how different it is.

Cambie Bridge
Went to Cambie St to buy bras, and decided to go to Whole Foods as well (always a mistake — I spent $43). Wandered around a bit before heading home to cook and read.

I went to the library. It was very cold outside.

09 January 13

dead lavender
I went to work, mostly because I was going stir-crazy. I warned everyone to stay away from me and had a pretty quiet shift, although I still didn't really feel ready to eat 'normal' food — just rice and lentils and applesauce.

08 January 13

hark, a vagrant
I stayed home again, because although I felt mostly better, I was still weak from not eating (and probably still contagious). I ate some toast and peanut butter with banana, some applesauce, some rice. No coffee, as badly as I wanted some. Jeff had the day off so we spent the evening watching Inglourious Basterds together.

07 January 13

I went to bed early, feeling sick to my stomach. Woke up around midnight or so and, realising I had only seconds before vomiting, I got up and someone was in the bathroom so I had to barf in the sink. :( I settled myself in for a long night of what I first thought was food poisoning, but after reading facebook at 3am and discovering that Iain and Steph were sick as well, was revealed to be the norovirus that had been going around. We figured someone working at the Warehouse on Saturday night must have been contagious, because no one else we were with that night or weekend got sick.

I slept very little; some on the bathroom floor, some in the armchair in my computer room next to the bathroom, and sometime around 8am my body hurt so much that I had to go to bed (after calling in to work). I was dying of thirst but too afraid to drink. Thankfully the worst seemed to be over by noon, but I didn't feel well enough or hungry enough to eat anything until around 9pm when I had a cup of black tea and a little chunk of French bread. I spent most of the day sleeping, reading, and watching Road to Perdition, a movie I adore and always seem to watch when I'm home sick.

Tap & Barrel
In the afternoon, I went with Iain, Steph, and Jesse to see The Hobbit. I was a little surprised by how much I liked it (after hearing people complain about how unnecessarily long and silly it was) and how much I remembered even without having read the book in at least fifteen years. Jesse left to meet a friend afterwards, so the three of us went for a quick dinner at the Warehouse before heading to Tap & Barrel to meet up with Jeff and my parents. The above photo was taken there, while we happily chatted and drank beer & wine, snacking on deep-fried pickles.

04 January 13

I got mildly drunk by myself and decided to buy a 2013 calendar. Of course that resulted in me spending $80 on Whoops.

The fog has been thick. When this photo was taken, the houses just across the street were barely visible.
