new hoodie
New hoodie. Still soft on the inside.

19 September 10

I bought a Paris Vogue. I can't understand more than about 1/3 of it, but who buys any type of Vogue for a purpose other than to look at the pictures?

18 September 10

mousse
We had a quiet night in involving homemade pesto sauce followed by this delicious dessert Jeff made - layers of mousse, whipped cream, and peanut butter caramel sauce topped with homemade peanut brittle.

dapper
I stayed home from work and after my headache went away, I got dolled up to run some errands in the Heights.

16 September 10

new records
Jeff and I were invited to a games night at MaryAnne and Jen's, so the two of us met up after work (I LOVE THAT WE CAN DO THAT NOW!) and had burgers & beer at the Speakeasy, and then stopped in at Kin's and the record store on the way to their apartment. I accidentally bought some things - namely, Joe Cocker, The Who, and the Boss. On the way we ran into Suz and then Lucas, and then we all had a lovely time drinking wine and playing Apples to Apples.

15 September 10

seafood chowdah
When I came home from yoga, the boys had made this DELICIOUS seafood chowder, featuring halibut, crab, prawns, and tuna (and some zucchini and other vegetables). On the side is a cheddar and feta quesadilla on a flax tortilla.

recycling basket kitty
The recycling basket is apparently the cats' new favourite place to sleep.

13 September 10

risotto and veggie kebabs
Malloreigh and Kaylie came over for dinner. Jeff and I served them a three-course vegan meal:
1. Bin 941 recipe hummus with parsley and kalamata olives (Jeff)
2. spinach salad with blueberries, walnuts, and wine grapes fresh from our trip to the Okanagan, in a creamy goat 'cheese' and wine vinegar dressing (Jeff and Jen)
3. grilled vegetables in parsley-garlic butter (Jeff) on top of a portobello mushroom, sun-dried tomato and artichoke risotto (Jen).
The risotto was very well received, which makes me happy because I'd never made anything remotely like it before. We drank 2.5 bottles of wine and had an excellent night.

12 September 10

dirty laundry
We spent Sunday visiting wineries, I think we went to five or six in total. Dirty Laundry was probably my favourite. We came home with a case of wine and a couple bottles of vinegar, as well as some free grapes. On the drive home I made Jeff listen to Lady Gaga, but he made me listen to NIN so we're even.

11 September 10

flasks in the windowbox
We drove to Vernon for the wedding of a high school friend of Jeff's. It was a lovely time and I enjoyed how things were slightly out of the ordinary - for instance, the best man was the groom's sister, these flasks were in the flowerbox during the ceremony, we were instructed to wave our napkins as you would towels at a Canucks game when the wedding party arrived at the reception, etc. The ranch where the ceremony was held was quite interesting, also, and we spent some time exploring there before heading back to the hotel for the reception.
booze brothers
Jeff and Chris at the reception, enjoying some $2 booze (not as cheap as free, but still, cheaper than a bar). I'm posting two from today because I took lots and I missed Friday.
A few more Okanagan photos here.

09 September 10

arguably fine literature
I've been re-reading the series for the umpteenth time. Someone at work asked me what made me want to read them again, and I found it hard to describe. She just... creates a whole world that you can easily put yourself in. Sometimes I have to force myself to remember it's not real. I love how interconnected and detailed everything is; the tiniest speck of information may seem pointless at one time, but shows up later and is wholly relevant. When you're in the middle of one and you have to stop, you'll be thinking about the next time you can pick it up again. Even when you know what happens it doesn't make it any less desirable to devour each paragraph, wanting desperately to reach the climax of the story but at the same time wanting it not to be over.

And yes, I DO have two copies of the Philosopher's Stone, because I wanted one with the original back cover art.

07 September 10

from Burnaby Heights
Walking home from yoga I got to witness a gorgeous sunset. iphone photos don't really do it justice, but you do the best with what you can. A brief thunderstorm followed, which is always a treat because you don't see too many of those on the west coast.

06 September 10

embarrassing
60ish cds I pulled out from my collection that I am totally ok with getting rid of outright (no backing up on my computer or anything). Some of them are pretty embarrassing, and some I hadn't even looked at since high school, yet I've been carting them around with me forever.

If you're looking at this going, "Hey, why would you get rid of Dylan?!" It's because I have it on vinyl.

05 September 10

a witch of trouble in electric blue
Bras were on sale at La Senza, and as I previously had only three that fit (one of which is rather worn out), I bought two. I had dinner with the roommates while we watched the new Mad Men, which was one of the most amazing episodes of anything I've ever seen.

04 September 10

zucchini blossoms
I got some errands done in the afternoon, which, combined with my bills, used up almost my entire paycheque. In the evening after Jeff got home from his last day of work at Hell, we went for beer and food at the Alibi Room and then dessert at the Revel Room. It was lovely, and I greatly enjoy that we still go on dates.

03 September 10

blueberries
Mmm, blueberries.
Steph came over and we watched some Six Feet Under and ate too many tortilla chips. Good times!

02 September 10

we can't stop here, this is bat country
The poster Jeff made for our front door on Terry Gilliam movie night. I wanted to leave it up there, but it was vetoed.

This is Zeus. He is one of Sarah's kitties.

30 August 10

Mal's entry
Pear cookoff! Only six competitors, but there were so many people there, so many I didn't really know... it was kind of uncomfortable; not the close-knit environment I'm used to. But the food was still good. This is Malloreigh's winning entry, a delicious crostini with smoked tofu, arugula, caramelized pear & fig, topped with almonds. You can see my entry here.

Amanda devouring samosas
Amanda enjoying samosas at Deserts on the Drive. Afterwards a bunch of us went to the Sunday Service which was pretty fun. The food there is not that great but at least the beer isn't too expensive.
