27 August 10

beer-coated boots & cigarette butts
Aaron's sneaker and my boot outside the Copper Tank on Broadway, the second bar we went to while celebrating Steph's birthday. We kept Dennis company and talked to a chatty but nice girl who seemed to have been hit on and subsequently threatened by the douchiest guy in Vancouver - apparently he was all over her and then when she mentioned she had a boyfriend, he said, "I've beaten up bigger girls than you, you know." WHAT. THE SHIT.

I started my journey home around 12:30 and it was one of those wonderful times where you only have to wait a few minutes for the bus, which pulls up just as the skytrain is coming in, which arrives a minute before the bus home. No standing around wondering if it'd be worth it to just take a cab.

26 August 10

trainyard & seabus walkway
Jeff and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner at a newish place at Waterfront Station called Rogue. It was a lovely restaurant with pretty great (nothing creatively mindblowing, but thoroughly delicious) food and amazing sangria. Felisha works as a hostess there; I was surprised to see her when we walked in, and even more surprised when she gave us a free dessert because we were celebrating! Mmm, free pie...

It's difficult to resist taking standard tourist photos from viewpoints; I don't know how many times I've stood in this spot near Canada Place and still felt inspired to pull out my camera.

25 August 10

tea and cheesecake
The 25th is Jeff's and my anniversary, but as he was working late, we opted to celebrate on the 26th.
Instead I went to yoga and came home and enjoyed some green tea and cheesecake.

24 August 10

veg curry made with potatoes from the garden
Jesse made this delicious curry using potatoes and zucchini from our garden. We ate it while watching Mad Men and drinking mojitos.

23 August 10

Pourhouse
at Pourhouse in Gastown. I love it there - the food and atmosphere are great, and I had the most delicious old fashioned I've ever ordered.

22 August 10

blur
I didn't leave the house all weekend. It's all right though, there was cheesecake and Terry Gilliam movies.

21 August 10

heartagram
I spent most of the day editing photos and most of the evening watching 10 Things I Hate About You, wishing Heath Ledger weren't dead. :(

20 August 10

at the Kingston Taphouse
I took Jeff to the movies to see Inception (which was the most brilliant film I've seen in some time), and beforehand we had food & beer at Kingston Taphouse on Richards St. They have one of the nicest patios in the city, I think.

19 August 10

bad news
I got some bad news. But it will be okay.

17 August 10

another air quality warning
I took this with my iphone while walking home from yoga in Burnaby Heights. We had another air quality warning because of the fires, but at least the haze makes for a pretty sunset.

16 August 10

berries from the alley
Sarah and I picked blackberries at twilight from the alley near our house. I guess picking berries in the dark is not the best way to ensure you get the ripest ones.

15 August 10

resting and sweating
I spent the afternoon at Wreck Beach with the roommates and also Jen Hardwick, who is visiting from Ontario for the summer. It was extremely hot but the water was lovely. The coast guard showed up for some reason. Afterwards we went to Enigma for burgers and mojitos, because a day at the beach always leaves you hungry and exhausted.

14 August 10

this feels like a sunscreen ad
I went to Spanish Banks with Tams, Val, and Sean, and Zoey (Sean and Val's dog). It is the only beach in Vancouver (I think) where you can have dogs off-leash, so it is basically awesome for anyone who likes the beach and also likes playing with puppies. Tamara and I both pretty much wanted to steal this lady's beautiful great Dane.

Mal & Amanda
Malloreigh and Amanda, at the Perch for Mal's 25th birthday celebrations. Food, drinks, cake, and good times were had by all. A few more photos can be viewed here.

09 August 10

cirques & arêtes
Somewhere along the 99. The scenery was mindblowingly amazing, but I felt pretty carsick from Fountain Valley basically until Pemberton.

08 August 10

the puppy invaded our photo
Jeff and I and Tony's overactive puppy, Teef.

07 August 10

Jeff and I drove to Quesnel for the weekend to visit his dad. This photo was taken somewhere along Highway 1, between Chilliwack and Hope. It was rainy and I liked watching the clouds roll past the mountains.

The intersection of Davie & Denman, where I met up with Lucas et. al. for his birthday celebration at Soho.

05 August 10

Jeff and I went to my parents' place for dinner. This is one of their kitties; he has the same mom as Lou. Maddie has been calling him Bagheera.

04 August 10

03 August 10

Shitty iphone photo of the sun setting through the haze due to smoke from forest fires in other parts of the province. I took this while Sarah and I walked back from Burnaby Heights after yoga and sushi.

01 August 10

I made this necklace for my sister Alice's (belated) birthday. It's pretty easy, attaching the chain and whatnot, and I get kind of zoned in on what I'm doing and then I kind of want to make like 50. I just wish I could stop sending jumprings flying all over the floor when I try to re-close them.

31 July 10

I was really overwhelmed on Saturday when I went to what I thought was a bbq at Britt's... and it was, but instead of the 10-20 people I was expecting, it was a fundraiser which had in attendance basically every lesbian in East Van. There were at least a hundred people, and there I am like an idiot with my homemade bean salad, frantically looking around for someone I know. I found Kaylie, thank fuck, and Malloreigh arrived not long afterwards. Apparently they weren't expecting it to be like that, either.

There were a few other people I knew, and I met some all right new people, but mostly I felt kind reclusive, and the mushrooms Britt gave us didn't help (though they did make me care less about how I looked lying on the front lawn staring at a tree). I suppose I'm not cut out for a full weekend of partying the way I was a few years ago.

29 July 10

Downtown, on Hornby I believe. This building was reflected in another building.

28 July 10

My tomato plant has tiny tomatoes growing on it! :D

27 July 10

My hair is growing, and starting to look kind of mullet-y. I forgot how sweaty it gets in the summer, having hair at the back of your neck.

26 July 10

Jeff, Jesse, Sarah and I went to Bin 941 for dinner (and wine). It was wonderful. When we got home Jesse asked me to take his picture, so I did.

25 July 10

Jeff and I spent the afternoon at Jericho Beach. It was kind of windy so I didn't really swim, but we both got in some reading time and I took a few photos. Then we went for beer and bison burgers at the sailing club, which was of course overpriced, but delicious.
This photo kind of makes me think of the Vancouver sucks/please don't move here video (which I cannot find otherwise I would post it), because I am half like FUCK YEAH I LIVE IN THE BEST CITY EVER and the other half is like omg we need like 1/3 of the people who live here to go to the Queen Charlottes or something so that maybe we can sometimes get a seat on the skytrain and find a place to live for under a million dollars.

24 July 10

Jeff and I went to Chris Waddell/Norm/Dave's housewarming in Coquitlam. It was surprisingly not obnoxious the way hanging out with Chris and Norm can generally be. There were a lot of pretty all right people, and delicious bbq and drinks to be had. Jeff's crazy ex-girlfriend (ok, one of them) showed up and that was kind of amusing; I'd never met her before and after talking to her for five minutes I could see that everything people said about her was completely true.
The house was quite nice, large with two kitchens and an impressive porch. Times like that you really see the differences between living in the city vs. the suburbs.

23 July 10

Suz and MaryAnne at Trout Lake for Jen and MaryAnne's post-wedding barbecue. They are thoroughly enjoying a pinwheel-topped cupcake. And, because I didn't take any photos on the 22nd, you get a bonus photo of Luka!

Good old Mr. Face.
