Steamworks
Met Liang for dinner & drinks at Steamworks after work. I got there about quarter past four and they hadn't yet put on the hockey game (which started at four) in the lounge area. When I asked the server if he could put it on, he came back and told me apparently it was a bet the bartenders were having to see how long it would take someone to ask. While I was waiting on my own I got to enjoy this view of the fog creeping in across the inlet; it was so beautiful I wanted to scream.

spider veins
This is a hard photo to post. I'm very self-conscious about the little spider veins in my legs... one of the joys of being as pale as me is that every tiny flaw is hyper-visible. But I can't really so anything about them, so I may as well just accept them.

14 October 13

overgrown fig tree
Went outside to check what was still doing ok in the garden, and later Sarah had a few people over to see photos & hear stories from her Nepal trip. Afterwards everyone else went to Tap & Barrel but I was in a weird mood where I felt lonely at home but didn't want to go out. Jeff came home and we had dinner together and watched Breaking Bad.

12 October 13

Obviously the most important part of Thanksgiving. As usual, there was a shit ton of food and a shit ton of people. Everything went reasonably well, especially considering I was on my own most of the day (Jeff came home just after four, and before that I just had Maddie to help me peel vegetables and Adam to stuff the turkey). After everyone went home Sarah, Jeff, Steph, and I just laid on the floor in the living room, smoking a joint and listening to Pink Floyd.

11 October 13

lo-res
I almost never use the front-facing camera on my iphone, but I was too exhausted — Jeff and I were up cooking until almost one in the morning! He had to work the day we were having our Thanksgiving dinner, so in order to keep me from getting too overwhelmed before he got home, we did as much prep as possible the day before.

10 October 13

bedroom ghost
Made lentil loaf in preparation for Thanksgiving in between periods of the hockey game.

09 October 13

dying basil
Came home and Jeff had started making pasta for dinner, but had to leave to go go-karting...? So there were just piles of vegetables on the cutting board and breaded chicken in a pan in the fridge. I finished it up and when he came home we watched some Breaking Bad.

06 October 13

Sarah got home from Nepal and brought me this bag of coffee! Later I watched the hockey game, which was terrible, and Boardwalk Empire, which was excellent.

05 October 13

carrot tops
Went to Liang & Cole's housewarming in Olympic Village. Ate some food, drank some drinks, met some new people. Liang passed out on the couch at like 10:30, and Steph and I took a cab home due to drunken laziness.

surprise party
Lauren wanted to throw Ray a surprise party for his birthday, so Jeff was the one to get him out of the house while we got everything ready. He was really surprised, which is awesome — it always sucks when it gets spoiled. It was a pinup theme, and unfortunately since Jeff and I didn't leave for the party together, we accidentally wore Christmas colours. On the way home we were waiting for the bus and a guy was SUPER creepy to me so we walked up to Victoria and took a cab. Still angry that I'm out ten bucks because some douchebag made me feel uncomfortable & unsafe.

Needy cat photobomb. Jeff and I cooked together; had to throw out a batch of bread dough because as we turned it out to knead it I realized I'd forgotten the yeast. We spent the evening cuddled on the couch, watching Breaking Bad while the rain poured.

27 September 13

no bleeding lips
Bought an invisible lipliner. Got my hair cut. Tried to buy boots but everything either didn't fit or was too expensive for the quality. Perhaps I should just break down and get a new pair of Docs.

25 September 13

I asked Jeff if he wanted to meet me for sushi on the Drive and he said sure, so after dropping off some things at the library I headed to the Storm Crow to have a beer while I waited for him. It's a good thing I had a book, because he didn't get there until after 7 — apparently he was taking apart his car to try and fix the leak in the trunk and had trouble getting it back together. So instead of sushi we just stayed there and had soup & burgers.

22 September 13

The National & Frightened Rabbit show at the PNE Amphitheatre happened, and all day it was raining so much and I had anxiety about going to this outdoor concert. (seriously, who schedules this shit for late September?) But it only rained for about half an hour in the middle of the show, and I had a rain poncho on so it was ok, just cold. The show was amazing — both bands were. It was actually lovely the way the sound carries there, so I can see why they chose it over, say, the PNE Forum. I can't decide whether the most amazing part (that wasn't music) was when Matt crowdsurfed and then said he is always reluctant to do it because of how ticklish he is, or when he took the microphone with him mid-song to go over to the beer stand and pour himself a beer.

I went with Jeff and Val and Tamara, and Tams brought us all a piece of cake because she's the best. Also it was super cool to be able to walk home from a show for once. It only took like 10 minutes!

Massive carrot harvest this year!

20 September 13

grunge princess
Went to see Neko Case at the Orpheum with Laryssa. It was an absolutely stunning show, which made up for having to go to Granville on a Friday night. Also I had to tie my dress up at the bottom to keep it from getting soaking wet in the rain.

19 September 13

girl talk at the Portside
I met up with Felisha and Pia for dinner at Nuba, and then we went to the Portside Pub to continue our conversation over beers. It's great — we can go months without seeing each other but it's never difficult or awkward to talk; it's like our friendship just picks up where it left off.

combing out the dye
Finished off my dye job. Landlord came and fixed the upstairs shower that had been leaking through the ceiling of my computer room for... some time. Made ravioli for dinner.

14 September 13

Set up the negative scanner, FINALLY. Spent awhile messing around with that, trying to get the settings right. Bleached my hair. Made cookies. Went for Greek food with Steph. Watched some Boardwalk Empire.

13 September 13

the ghost at skeleton rock
we had a pretty serious incident with Kenny so I took the day off work. In the evening my parents wanted to get out of the house so Jeff and I took them to Six Acres for dinner. You shouldn't always use booze & food as coping mechanisms, but I figure once in awhile is okay.

electric sunset
Walking to yoga is always worth it, if only for the view from the top of Boundary.

10 September 13

awkward smile
Went to Steamworks to celebrate Sarah's birthday, since she would be in Nepal on the actual day. It was supposed to be a surprise but Cameron kind of spilled the beans by accident. She got a free dessert, and we put birthday candles into her pizza.

09 September 13

wisp of smoke
I met up with Liz at Six Acres after work, and a guy beside us was sitting alone and overheard me trashing Newark while talking about my trip to NYC, and it turned out he was from Jersey (and grew up in Newark) — what are the odds? His name was Korey, and he was here for a job interview with the Aritzia design team. And because I'm posting this photo so long after the fact, I can say that he got the job and will be moving here very soon!

Bronwen's entry from the salsa cookoff: hot pepper, onion & tomato jam on cornflour shortbread with coriander. As always, check out the blog to see the rest of the entries and category winners!

(I don't know how I let this blog get so behind. I'm trying to get caught up, somewhat.)
